Haile earns weekly SEC recognition
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – For his performance at the season-opening Razorback Invitational, junior Solomon Haile was named the Southeastern Conference Co-Runner of the Week as announced by the league office Tuesday. In his first cross country race since the
2010 season, he ran to the event title on Arkansas’ home course at Agri Park in Fayetteville.
“We were fortunate that we were able to get him some races outdoor in the spring,” head coach Chris Bucknam said. “That helped just to get him back racing. It’s nice
to see him even healthier now than he was in the spring. He’s stronger and back into it again. It was good to see.”
In the dual meet with Missouri Southern, Haile pulled away from the lead pack late in the race to finish in a time of 19:51.4, nearly 18 seconds ahead of the second-place
runner. He currently owns the fastest 6.6K time in the SEC this season. Overall, Haile led the way as Arkansas placed six runners in the top seven and raced to a dual-meet win over the Lions.
The Razorbacks are scheduled to have individuals compete next Sept. 15 at the First to the Finish Southern Stampede in Joplin, Mo. As a team, Arkansas will return to
the course Sept. 22 for the Virginia/Panorama Farms Invitational in Earlysville, Va.
Arkansas’ home schedule in 2012 will also feature the 24th Annual Chile Pepper Festival on Oct. 13 and the NCAA South Central Regional on Nov. 9. For more information
