  High School Stars Set to Excel in Hispanic Games at Armory;

   Marcus Samuelsson to Receive Leadership Award on Saturday

WHAT: The 19th Annual Hispanic Games will be held today and Saturday (January 5) at the Armory's New Balance Track & Field Center.The Hispanic Games have become another in a series of high-quality, large-volume high school meets at the Armory. The record book is a "Who's Who" of Eastern high school track in the last 15 years. World-famous New York City chef Marcus Samuelsson, author of New York Times Best Seller "Yes, Chef" and past recipient of James Beard Foundation's Best Chef in New York City award, will be receiving the Hispanic Games' "Leader of Today" award and will recognize 10 student-athletes with the "Leaders of Tomorrow" award, honoring young leaders in the Hispanic community.   For the Hispanic Games schedule, go to: http://www.armorytrack.com/Meet/1419/Hispanic-Games-1213 

 

WHO:

Premier high school track and field athletes scheduled to compete include:

  • Medgar Evers High School senior Kadecia Baird, who during last summer's IAAF World Junior Championships in Barcelona, Spain recorded the fifth fastest USA high school time in the 400 meters (51.04);
  • Benjamin Cardozo senior Sabrina Southerland, who last month at the Armory set a Bishop Loughlin Games mile record (4:56.25) qualifying her for the upcoming Millrose Games high school mile;
  • Both highly anticipated boys' and girls' miles with runners vying for berths in the 106th Millrose Games.

  • World-famous chef Marcus Samuelsson will be present to receive the Hispanic Games' "Leader of Today" award and will recognize 10 student-athletes with the "Leaders of Tomorrow" award on Saturday, January 5th.
