Dream Mile Winner Bernie Montoya Commits to Arizona State

2012 Adidas Grand Prix Dream Mile winner Bernie Montoya has announced that he will sign his letter of intent to run for Arizona State. Montoya selected the Sun Devils over other national powerhouses like Oregon and Oklahoma State, which he recently visited.
The Sun Devils are no strangers to having a member of the Montoya family on their team as Bernie's brother Leonard ran for Arizona State.
After a strong cross-country season in which Montoya shattered several course records, he finished 22nd at Nike Cross-County Nationals.
Lately, he continues to train for another outdoor season with the Cibola High School Raiders. Expect him to possibly try and go under the sub-four minute mile mark after clocking a 4:01 mile in New York, last June.
Montoya emerged on the national scene after losing his shoe in the 1600-meter final of the 2011 Arizona State championship and still winning the race with a time of 4:12.
As of right now, Montoya joins a Sun Devils recruiting class that includes Cody Brazeal (Buchanan HS, CA).
Update: Montoya will sign his letter of intent on Friday.
