Chicago Marathon Registration to Re-Open with a Lottery System on March 5th

After techinical difficulties forced Active.com's registration page for the 2013 Bank of America Chicago Marathon to fail, only 15,000 spots remain for the race and will be decided with a lottery system. Registration will reopen on March 5th at 12:01 a.m. CST and will close two days later at 9 p.m.

There is no cost to enter the lottery, which can be done at any time between next Tuesday and Thursday from the Chicago marathon's official website. A confirmation email will follow after the form is
properly submitted.

There is no preference in the new lottery system as charity runners will be considered just as equal as any other runner. Even if someone tried to register on February 19th, there is no record of that and every lottery entry will be weighed the same.

Winners of those final spots will recieve an email on March 12th. They will have to pay the registration fee before March 14th at 9 p.m or the spot will expire and not be re-issued.

The 2013 Bank of America Chicago Marathon is already one of the most popular options for runners in 2013. The ING New York City Marathon lottery will produce just as high demand after Hurricane Sandy moved 2012 entrants into the 2013 race.

Dathan Ritzenhein is the first elite runner committed to Chicago on October 13th.
