The Second Coming? Williams Misses Bolt's Record by .02 Seconds
19-year-old sprinter Delano Williams just fell short of Usain Bolt's 200-meter record at the Jamaican Boys and Girls Championship record by .02 seconds. His winning time of 20.27 set a Turks and Caicos national record.
Bolt never raced the 100-meter dash at the Boys and Girls Championship, but holds the 400-meter (45.35 seconds) and 200-meter record (20.25 seconds), both set in 2003. Williams won the 2013 100-meter dash final in 10.28 seconds which is .07 away from Yohan Blakes' record set in 2007.
He finished in fifth place at the British Olympic Trials as Turks and Caicos is recognized as a British overseas territory. He could represent Turks and Caicos at the IAAF World Championships in Moscow. Williams went on to win gold at the 2012 World Junior Athletic Championships in Barcelona.
According to Ato Boldon, Williams will join Racers Track Club in Jamaica and start training with Usain Bolt soon.
Do not forget Williams' name name. Britain could have one of the best sprinting cores at the 2016 Olympics in Rio with Adam Gemeli, the world junior 100-meter champion, already with one Olympic experience under his belt.
