Turkey’s Asli Cakir Alptekin, who was the gold medalist in the 1500m at the London Olympics, has been named by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) as one of the eight athletes who have tested positive for a banned substance, according to the Chinese news agency Xinhua.

The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and WADA have not confirmed the report.

If the unconfirmed results are upheld, then Alptekin would face a lifetime ban as this would be her second doping violation. Alptekin already served a two-year doping ban after testing positive at the 2004 IAAF World Junior Championships.

After the 1500m final, Alptekin explained that she and her compatriot Gamze Bulut, who took silver, managed to take the first two medal sports due to “Turkish power.”
