Carmelita Jeter will not compete at the 2013 United States Outdoor Track and Field Championships to continue recovering from a quadricep strain. The Olympic 100-meter silver medalist has a wildcard roster spot from her win at the 2011 IAAF World Championships in Daegu, so she will travel to Moscow in August.

Allyson Felix, who also trains under coach John Smith in Los Angeles, is also listed as a scratch in the race. Yesterday, sprinter Ryan Bailey withdrew from the 100-meter dash with a hamstring strain.

Jeter's absence opens up a chance for a sprinter like Jeneba Tarmoh to make the national team. Tarmoh was at the center of Olympic Trials controversy as a photo finish showed her and Felix in a tie for third place and the final 100-meter roster spot heading to London for the Olympics. Tarmoh refused to race in a tie-breaking run-off.

Other possibilities could be the top three from the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship. Former Oregon Duck English Gardner will make her Nike debut and now trains with Smith's group in Los Angeles. Aurieyall Scott and Octavious Freeman from Central Florida are also strong candidates.
