Moscow-bound Octavious Freeman turns professional
The summer track circuit happens so fast, that plenty of small news can get swept under the rug. Unlike the other seasons where everything is geared towards the weekends, all sorts of meets are held throughout the week. It’s a bit like baseball, I guess. As much as I like watching games almost everyday, I’m also usually kicking myself for not setting my fantasy team’s roster.
So between the USA Championships (last week), the USA Youth Champs (ongoing) Ostrava (today), Edmonton (tomorrow), Harry Jerome (Sunday), and Birmingham (Sunday), some important tidbits may go unnoticed.
She finished second in the NCAA 100m, second in the U.S. Championship 100m, and now she’s going to Moscow... as a professional.
According to Milesplit’s Todd Grasley, UCF sophomore Octavious Freeman has turned professional. “According to Icon Management President and CEO Kimberly Holland as well as Freeman's step dad Stan Smith, the sophomore will be represented by Icon Management,” says Grasley.
“A contract has yet to be reached, but talks with several shoe companies are in the works.”
After this season, we couldn’t wait to see more battles between Freeman and Oregon’s English Gardner. But after their breakthrough seasons, we’ll have to watch those head-to-head matches not on the collegiate racing circuit, but on the professional one.
Also, props to UCF for the following landing page. It’s not everyday that a small school sends two collegians.
