Former McNeese State Cowboy David Rooney joins Team RunFan

RunFanShop is pleased to announce the newest member of Team RunFan, David Rooney. Rooney, a native of Ireland, recently graduated from McNeese State University in Louisiana where he finished seventh at the 2012 NCAA Cross Country Championships for the Cowboys. Team RunFan is an elite development group for aspiring professional distance runners based in Flagstaff, Ariz. The team is owned and operated by RunFanShop and the athletes are coached by RunFan owner Ben Rosario.
Rooney said he’s looking forward to setting some personal bests on the track this coming spring and that his long term goals include the 2016 Olympics.
“This spring I’d definitely like to run in the 13:30s and for the 10k I definitely want to break 28 minutes,” Rooney said. “My goals for the future would be to represent my country in the Olympics in Brazil and I think with Team RunFan I can do that.”
Rosario said he thinks Rooney will be a nice addition to the group for a number of reasons.
“We have two main goals with this group,” Rosario said. “We want to produce world-class athletes but we also want to prove that there is a value to partnering with professional distance runners. David has world-class talent, as evidenced by his seventh place finish at NCAAs, but he also has a great personality and I think that will be a huge advantage for our group.”
Rooney joins fellow NCAA All Americans Jordan Chipangama (Northern Arizona), Eric Fernandez (Arkansas) and Matt Llano (Richmond) as Team RunFan athletes. The group launched, along with RunFanShop.com, in July of 2013. Chipangama competed for his native Zambia in the marathon at this summer’s World Track and Field Championships, finishing 29th. Llano recently finished seventh at the U.S. 20k Championships at the Stratton Faxon New Haven Road Race, thus qualifying for the inaugural .US Road Racing Championships in Virginia on November 17.
