USADA released 3rd Quarter Numbers: Rupp remains most tested in 2013
Third quarter numbers are now released for the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency's athlete drug testing history for testing done in and outside of competition. The testing numbers run through Sept. 30, 2013.
Galen Rupp was the most tested U.S. athlete heading into the third quarter with 19 tests through six months. The 2012 Olympic 10,000-meter silver medalist was tested five more times in the last three months.
Matt Tegenkamp was the most tested runner in the third quarter with seven tests. His total for 2013 is now at 15, which is just behind Dathan Ritzenhein's 17 for the second most by a U.S. track and field athlete in 2013. Ritzenhein and Tegenkamp ran the 2013 Bank of America Chicago Marathon finishing fifth and tenth respectively.
Sprinter Tyson Gay, who failed multiple drug tests during the summer, was not tested in the third quarter after seven tests in the second quarter.
826 in-competition tests were administered by USADA in the third quarter. Another 1,350 tests were done out of competition for a total of 2,176. The third quarter reported 696 less tests than the second quarter of the year. Track and field is responsible for 346 of those tests. 281 were administered out of competition and 65 in-competition.
With 1,648 drug tests, track and field remains the most tested sport in 2013. Cycling is the second most drug-tested sport with 1,283 tests.
