USATF Indoor Championships: Women's 400m preview

The women’s 400m is a two horse race. This one won’t take long.
With Dee Dee Trotter out, it’s heads-up battle between Natasha Hastings and Francena McCorory. In their one meeting in Moscow, it was Hastings who came out over McCorory on time. In two separate heats, Hastings would go on to win in 51.69 while McCoroy would finish fifth in the “B” race in 53.23.
At the time, Hastings’ mark was the world lead. But after Russia’s Kseniya Ryzhova ran a blistering 51.03 at her national championship, Hastings now sits in second on the world list. Can Hastings topple Ryzhova in Poland? Let’s not get ahead of ourselves just yet.
McCorory should be a lock. Although she had a tough run in Moscow, she has run 51.79 this season. That was also a world lead, at the time.
