Powell and Simpson cleared to compete

Asafa Powell is now eligible to return to competition, according to Nick Zaccardi of NBC Sports. The former 100-meter world record holder will be permitted to compete next week at the Jamaican National Championships, but may have to serve the remainder of his suspension later this season. The appeal is pending.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled on Wednesday that Powell and Sheron Simpson, who was also suspended for a positive drug test last year, have been granted a stay of execution of their current suspensions. This temporary window allows both Powell and Simpson to qualify and compete at the Commonwealth Games, which will be held in July and August.
Powell nearly made his return to competition at the American Track League Houston Meeting, but was later denied clearance to compete.
