Who is Muktar Edris?
Muktar Edris took the Diamond League by surprise on Thursday afternoon by winning the men’s 5,000-meter run in a new world leading time of 12:54.83. Who is the 20-year-old Ethiopian?
Coming into Friday’s race in Stockholm, Edris’ personal best was 13:03.69 from his win in last year’s Ostrava Golden Spikes Meeting. He defeated Augustine Choge, Lawi Lalang and Kenenisa Bekele in that race.

Edris won gold in the 5,000-meter run at the 2012 World Junior Championships.
He shouldn’t be too much of a surprise. He represented Ethiopia at the 2013 IAAF World Championships in Moscow and finished 7th in the 5,000-meter final ahead of Galen Rupp.
Edris and Caleb Ndiku (3rd, 12:59:17 PB) are some of the young stars to watch ahead of next year's IAAF World Championships in Beijing.
