Barshim Jumps to FloRunner of the Week

He may be a jumper, but we unanimously decided on Mutaz Essa Barshim as our FloRunner of the Week. After battling with Bohdan Bondarenko all season, the 23-year-old settled the score by jumping 2.43m, #3 all time. His attempts at breaking the world record may have proved unsuccessful in Brussels, but his mark is the highest jump recorded since 1993.

Other FloRunner Nominees:

Gordon's pick: Justin Gatlin
So this guy who everyone loves, I mean hates, I mean I don't know, just had the most impressive sprint double ever run. So impressive it got people speculating that Justin Gatlin is using illegal Christmas Tree spikes. I say we don't recognize him as the FloRunner until we make sure his spikes are not more than 3/8ths of an inch.
Lincoln's pick: Evan Jager
His 8:04.71 bested his previous American record by more than 2 seconds. Jager used a much wiser approach to set his latest record, choosing to hang back from the lead pack until the final 1k. Will 2015 see Jager dip under 8 minutes? If so, he would be the first non-African to break that mark.

Joe's pick: Geoffrey Rono
A few months ago, no one even knew who Rono was. But then he stunned Wilson Kipsang and Dennis Kimetto to win the Olomouc Half Marathon. Saturday, he proved that was no fluke by taking another major scalp, Geoffrey Mutai’s, in winning the Prague Grand Prix in a course-record 27:28.

James' pick: Mary Keitany
It is a shame that Kenya’s Keitany has been so overlooked. Keitany utterly destroyed Paula Radcliffe’s 11-year-old course record, running an unbelievable 65:39 for the half marathon. This performance was not only #2 all-time by a female, but only 39 seconds away from the men’s American B-standard for the Olympic trials.
