Eugene in the mix for '19 World Championships
On Wednesday, the International Association of Athletics Federation confirmed Barcelona, Doha and Eugene as finalists for the 2019 World Championships. Letters of intent for application were submitted earlier in the year and each site will now be visited by the IAAF.
The United States has not hosted the World Championships. Portland was recently selected for the 2016 World Indoor Championships over Birmingham (UK), which will host the event in 2018.
An announcement of the host city for 2019 will be made by the IAAF on Nov. 19. The next two sites for the World Championships are Beijing in 2015 and London in 2017. The 2016 Summer Olympic Games will take place in Rio De Janeiro.
