Austin Tamagno earns FloRunner of the Week

The junior from Brea Olinda High School captured the course record at the 67th annual Mt. SAC Cross Country Invitational by just barely dipping under the previous record of 14:24 set by Diego Mercado in 2005 and tied by Ammar Moussa in 2010. Austin Tamagno’s 14:23 performance easily won the boy’s sweepstakes race as runner-up Phillip Rocha of Arcadia followed in 14:31. Watch Tamagno recap the performance post-record:
Other FloRunner nominees:
Lincoln's pick: Mitch Goose The former Iona star returned to XC and delivered a victory in the BAA Mayor’s Cup. Goose won the 8k race in 23:46, beating 2nd place finisher Bobby Mack by four seconds. The best part though? Goose was rockin’ a jersey with a hand drawn logo of an atom, representing his aptly named group, The Manhattan Project.
Gordon's pick: Mark KiptooMark Kiptoo is my FloRunner of the Week after he ran 2:06 at the Frankfurt Marathon. Kiptoo did this feat at the age of 38! Which is very impressive and also leads me to this question...What is a 'Frankfurt'?
Meg's pick: Fiona O'KeeffeFiona O'Keefe won the team sweepstakes race at Mt. SAC by running 16:28. She is now a member of a very small club of sub 16:30 members (Jordan Hasay and Sarah Baxter, anyone?) in Walnut. She also got revenge on Great Oak's Destiny Collins, who had been undefeated all season.
Joe’s pick: Samuel Kosgei Spurred on from support from wounded warriors lining the route, the U.S. Army specialist won the men’s division of the 39th Marine Corps Marathon in 2:22:11. The 30-year-old medic hopes to gain entry into the Army World Class Athlete Program to train for the 2016 Rio Olympics.
James' pick: Arne GabiusGruß! Arne Gabius is my FloRunner of the week because he ran a 2:09.32 debut marathon this weekend, becoming the first sub 2:10 German to do so since 1990! So since I’ve been alive, no German has ever run that fast. I think that’s pretty cool considering I’ve seen multiple world records set in the mile, 5k, 10k, marathon, etc.
