Dennis Kimetto
The 30-year-old Kenyan became the latest man to set a marathon world record in Berlin on September 28th, marking the sixth consecutive world record set on the fast course. Kimetto’s time of 2:02:57 destroyed Wilson Kipsang’s previous world record by 26 seconds, which was set on the same course just one year prior. Becoming the first man to break 2:03 propelled Kimetto into our top 5.

Kimetto did not take a traditional path to the top of the marathoning world. The Kenyan was a full-time farmer up until 2008, when current training partner Geoffrey Mutai approached him about joining his group. That move has clearly paid tremendous dividends since Kimetto burst on to the international scene in 2012, as he has surpassed his mentor to become the fastest man over 26.2 miles all time.
