Rio Olympics Ticket Prices Announced

If you want a ticket to watch the men’s 100m final at the Rio 2016 Olympics, you can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that the asking price is half the cost to attend in London.

Organizers have announced that there will be 7.5 million tickets on sale for the 2016 Rio Olympics with 3.8 million for less than $25. Compared to the 2012 London Olympics, where the most expensive tickets were for the swimming, gymnastics and track & field events, the most expensive tickets at Rio are for track, men’s basketball, beach volleyball and men’s volleyball games.

The cheapest tickets offered start at $15 for the 50km race walk, canoe sprint, mountain biking, marathon swimming, modern pentathlon, shooting finals and preliminaries of football, hockey, rowing, sailing, weightlifting and wrestling.

In London, the most expensive opening ceremony ticket was priced at $3,054, and the most expensive ticket to the men’s 100m final was $1,100. Track & field event tickets in Rio range from $300 to $132.

Residents of Brazil get the first chance to register for tickets today while the remaining tickets will be on sale online from October 2015, and what is left will be sold at box office from June 2016.
