Williams Breaks NCAA Pentathlon Record

Georgia sophomore Kendell Williams broke the collegiate record in the women’s pentathlon at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships today in Fayetteville, scoring 4678 points to better her own record of 4635 set at last year’s NCAA meet. The Bulldog was well on pace to better her mark through four events, and she ran a PB of 2:17.30 in the 800m to close out the competition.

Williams took advantage of her strengths in the 60m hurdles and long jump to put a comfortable gap on the rest of the field. Williams, who was ranked #4 in country in the open long jump this season with her 6.54m, nearly jumped that distance within a multi by leaping 6.53m. That coupled with her 8.10 60 hurdles gave the sophomore 2124 points in just two events, all but assuring the record would be broken.

2013 NCAA pentathlon champion Erica Bougard of Mississippi State was second in 4566 points.
