Aussie Josh Harris Sets Beer Mile World Record

There's a new official World Record holder for the beer mile.

Josh Harris, the 25-year-old Austrailian crossed the line at 4:56.25, taking almost a full second off James Nielson's world record time of 4:57.0.

Interestingly enough, Harris is not the first Aussie to run under 4:57 on camera. Back in April, James Hansen also ran the exact same time of 4:56.25.

According to beermile.com, the event's governing body, Harris' time was considered a new world record, although there is no information stating why his 4:56.2 is more legitimate than Hansen's.

While both men ran the same time, it's hard to tell which one is actually more legitmate. Upon finishing his beers, Harris handed all four bottles to the camera operator. The woman holding the camera would then hold the bottle up to the camera, proving that the bottle was "empty". All four bottles had liquid remaining. There are no rules stating how much liquid can be left in the container.

Hansen went the "traditional route" and poured the empty bottles over his head after drinking each beer. However, he didn't do this on his final beer, leaving some mystery behind how much of the final beer was actually consumed.

Despite both attempts leaving some room for speculation, they are two of the best in the World, and have made that clear.

Both Aussies and James Nielson will compete against eachother on August 22nd at the Beer Mile World Classic in San Francisco.

That should settle it.
