Colorado's Sara Sutherland Signs With Saucony

Today former Colorado Buffalo and Texas Longhorn Sara Sutherland announced she has signed a sponsorship deal with Saucony. Sutherland, who closed out her collegiate career with a 3rd place 1500m finish at the NCAA Championships will continue to train under Mark Wetmore and Heather Burroughs in Boulder, CO.

We had a chance to speak with the newly signed Sutherland…

How was the decision making process and how did you decide on Saucony?
"A huge part of the beginning stages of my sponsorship decision was that I wanted to stay in Boulder to continue training with my coaches at CU, Mark and Heather. From there, my agent, Dan Lilot, spoke with shoe companies on my behalf. What stood out about Saucony instantly was the enthusiasm about the brand, from the quality of their products to the athletes wearing the Saucony kit on race day. I had seen the success of many of the Saucony athletes that I admire over the years, and being a part of that group is a dream come true. I am incredibly excited and honored to represent Saucony in my professional running career!"

Where will you be training and who will you be training under?
“I will remain in beautiful Boulder, Colorado to train with my coaches at CU, Mark and Heather. They are awesome people, and we mesh very well. I have the utmost faith in their ability to help me be the best runner that I can be, and I will have an incredible group of women to chase around the track in their group of post collegiate runners.”

Looking at the end of 2015 and into 2016, what are your goals you're hoping to hit?
“I just finished taking a bit of post-season time off, so right now it's building up the mileage and getting ready to train hard. I don't have anything concrete on the calendar for 2015 yet, but my focus will be next outdoor season. I transitioned to a focus on the 1500 this year, and I had a blast with it and saw some good improvement. I will be looking to stay healthy and make incremental improvements in that event this year, as well as racing well at the Olympic Trials next summer.”

Sutherland is a 3x NCAA All-American with personal bests of 4:11 1500m, 9:10 3,000m, and 15:50 5,000m.
