Throwers sure know how to party.

The Independent is reporting via Chinese media outlet Tencent that Poland’s Pawel Fajdek, fresh off his hammer throw victory in Beijing, paid for a taxi ride home using his gold medal as currency after getting drunk from a night out celebrating.
 
Fajdek reportedly woke up the next morning realizing what he had done and immediately called the police and filed a report for his lost medal.
 
Luckily the Chinese officers were able to track down the taxi driver and Fajdek was able to recover his medal.

UPDATE: Pawel responds to report of using medal for taxi ride. Turns out he was not 'drunk' and simply left the medal in cab by accident. See his Facebook post below:
