LA City Council Approves 2024 Olympic Bid
LA Coliseum Opening Ceremony in 1984
Today the LA City Council voted 15-0 approving Los Angeles to bid for the 2024 Olympics. After Boston pulled their bid in July due to demanding costs rumors surfaced that LA would be the next city in line for USA's bid.
Los Angeles will be going for their 3rd Olympics after hosting in 1932 and 1984.
The main issue the LA officials debated on was the staggering $6 Billion cost to host the Olympic Games. However, Council President, Herb Wesson assured that the city has two years to negotiate and strategize a plan that does not leave tax payers on the hook for the bill.
The deadline for submitting a bid for 2024 is later this month. Currently Paris, Rome, Hamburg and Budapest have filed bids.
The 2024 Host City will be announced September 15th, 2017 in Lima, Peru.
