Warrior Relay Charity Event

What do you remember from high school track and field? Bus rides, friends, meets, fundraisers, volunteering...oh the life of a busy high school student-athlete. As an assistant distance coach at Centaurus High School in Lafayette, Colorado, I'm always trying to think, "what would teach them the best life lessons and enjoy the sport more everyday." The head coach, Devin Rourke, and I came up with an idea of putting together a 12-hour relay event to help fund the track team and a former CHS student-athlete who was diagnosed with cancer in the fall. With the help of some super parents, volunteers, and faculty, the event is a go this Saturday! Here is the "official" press release below. Please visit www.CentaurusTrack.org to learn more about the event and what you can do to help. Obviously two main goals of this charity event is to fundraise for the school and for the Marble Family, but it will also be an important event in the lives of all of the 87 student-athletes on the team. They have learned so many valuable lessons, with more to come in the 12 hours from 9AM to 9PM on Saturday. Please share the event and if you are a person looking to donate money, any amount would be greatly appreciated!

Warrior Marble Relay Brings Community Together
The Track & Field Team of Centaurus High School will run for 12 hours to raise money for their team and for teammate, Bobby Marble.
Lafayette, CO, March 9, 2012: On Saturday, March 17, 2012 the Centaurus High School (CHS) Track and Field team hopes to raise $10,000 by running around Warrior Stadium for 12 hours from 9:00am to 9:00pm. Students, coaches, teachers, and community member will be participating in the inaugural Warrior Marble Relay as a benefit event for the CHS Track and Field program as well as CHS junior and track athlete, Bobby Marble, who is currently battling Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
Local businesses are generously donating cash, food, product, and services to keep the runners fueled and entertained throughout the 12 hours odyssey. Head Coach Devin Rourke has been working closely with his coaching staff and parent volunteers to ensure that this event, first and foremost, brings people of all ages and abilities together for a memorable and unique experience.
The highlight of the event might well be the “Bell Lap” taking place just before the conclusion of the event. Stadium light will dim, and all participants, volunteers, and spectators will convene on the track with glow sticks and flashlights to escort the Marble family for the final lap of the evening.
Teachers are planning their relay teams. Parents are cooking and baking concession stand offerings. Students are Facebooking to get the word out. Out of state friends and family are donating online. The community is rallying together in the hopes that Bobby Marble gets to come home soon and get back to running on the track at Warrior Stadium.
