Jack Daniels once taught me a very important lesson that I will carry with me the rest of my life. Never take ten shots in a row after a ten mile run on an empty stomach. In all seriousness, that's not the Jack Daniels that I will be discussing here today. For those of you outside of the running world, the Jack Daniels I'm talking about is a well respected coach, physiologist, author, Olympian & family man. I had the pleasure of sharing many hours with Jack during my first few years in Flagstaff thanks to his position as resident coach of the HATC (High Altitude Training Center). It's true that i heard many of Jack's stories three or four times each. Although I can say there was never a diminished sense of enthusiasm with each retelling. In between his stories of his brother's experiences with the Skyhook Extraction method and the luck of the draw associated with the Olympic Pentathlon horse selection process, he dropped quite a few knowledge bombs on me.
