Navigating a hectic cross country season is no small order for a wide-eyed freshman, but the following list of guys have done it better than any other 9th graders across the country.
Without further ado, here is the final freshman boys Future Stars release of 2015:
First Team
Ronald Kigen (Newark, NJ)

I called him the next Edward Cheserek at the beginning of the season, as he attends the King’s alma mater, St. Benedict’s Prep, and is also a native of the distance running mecca of Kenya. Of course, there’s still plenty of work to be done to come close to Ches-like greatness, but with his victory at the NJCTC Championships (15:46) and 19th place showing at Foot Locker Northeast, frosh Ronald Kigen is off to a good start.

Carter Cheeseman (Brentwood, TN)

Cheeseman’s 15:30 5K from October 17th was the best by a freshman in 2015, and one race later he tacked on a shiny Tennessee state title to put a bow on an outstanding first season. This kid is a star in the making— his 9:32 3200m last spring was the fastest by an 8th grader by nearly seven seconds.

Sam Affolder (Carthage, NY)

Affolder, whose older brother Noah is one of the top runners in the country, was able to make some noise of his own in 2015 as his 14:58 3-mile was the best by a frosh throughout the season. The Carthage (NY) product was the top 9th grader at the New York Fed Championships by over 34 seconds, so no doubt that the Affolder pipeline will continue for several years to come.

Zane Fodge (McMinnville, OR)

His 15:31 5K was second-best by a freshman in 2015, and Fodge was the top frosh at both the Oregon state championships and NXN Northwest. His consistency throughout the year is perhaps most impressive— the McMinnville 9th grader had just one race out of 10 slower than 16:19.

Sam Toolin (North Kingstown, RI)

Rhode Island’s Sam Toolin was the only freshman across the country to finish top-10 at an NXN regional, with his ninth place finish at Northeast proving him worthy of a First Team honor. Additionally, his 15:39 5K on Halloween was sixth best from the Class of 2019 and the fastest ever by a Rhode Island freshman.

Riley Moore (Richland, WA)

Moore was the top frosh at the Washington state meet (10th), and again at Border Clash, where he beat fellow first teamer Zane Fodge by a sizable nine second margin. Like Fodge, consistency was huge for Riley Moore in 2015: the slowest of his seven 5K races was 16:18.

Camren Fischer (Fayetteville, AR)

Runner-up in Arkansas’ largest division, Camren Fischer is now set up to dominate the Natural State for the next three years as the closest non-senior was over 13 seconds behind him on November 7th. The Fayetteville product was the top freshman at all nine of his races this season.
