Should Galen Rupp Run The Olympic Marathon Trials?
Galen Rupp’s agent, Ricky Simms confirmed via email that Rupp plans to open his season with a half marathon in his hometown Portland. In the email to FloTrack, Simms stated:

“He (Galen) will be running the Foot Traffic Holiday Half Marathon next Sunday in Portland.  He’s run this distance in the past as part of his ongoing training and is looking forward to competing in his first road race in Portland.”

Rupp has a short history with racing off the track. To date, he has only recorded three performances on the roads. In 2010 he finished second (13:39) at the Silicon Valley Turkey Trot in San Jose. In 2011 he finished third (60:30) at the NYC Half Marathon, and in 2012 he recorded a 28:20 10K split as a part of the Chiba Ekiden Relay in Japan.

Galen racing off the track is not a normal occurance. Could this hint at him taking a shot at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Los Angeles this February?
