Less than a week after the IAAF announced a total ban of the Russian track and field team from the Rio Olympics, the IOC is altering the ban. Despite the IAAF's recommendation that any Russian athletes cleared to compete in Rio would compete as "neutral" athletes under the Olympic flag, IOC President Thomas Bach said today that cleared athletes would wear Russian colors. According to the AP, Bach said that "when it comes to the Olympic Games, all athletes then are part of the team of the Russian Olympic Committee."
Otherwise, the IOC claimed to "fully respect the decision of the IAAF Council with regard to the specific situation of track and field in Russia."
Meanwhile, Russia's Olympic Committee will go to the Court of Arbitration for Sport and try to get the blanket ban reduced.
The news today came from a specially convened IOC Olympic Summit in Lausanne, Switzerland. After the summit, the IOC put out a press release. The most salient claim in there is that they have "doubled the budget for the pre-Olympic testing."
