High Schoolers Noah Lyles and Mike Norman Make Olympic Trials 200m Final
Recently graduated high school seniors Michael Norman and Noah Lyles won their semifinals over fields of pros and collegians and automatically qualified for tomorrow evening's final. Norman ran 20.21 into a headwind to win his heat over 100m world leader and Trials 100m champion Justin Gatlin to automatically qualify, while Lyles ran 20.26 ahead of Kendal Williams to win his heat.

Making the Olympic team will be a tall order for the teenagers. 400m Trials champion LaShawn Merritt ran a wind-legal 19.74 in the final heat, ahead of Ameer Webb's wind-legal 19.97. Merritt, Webb, and Gatlin are the three favorites to make the team tomorrow, but Merritt has already said that he's unsure if he'll pursue a 400-200 double in Rio.

Norman and Lyles ran the fourth and sixth fastest qualifying times in the semifinals. Both high schoolers are 18; Lyles turns 19 in ten days.
