Best FloTrack Races of 2016: Christina Aragon Runs Olympic Trials Standard
Christina Aragon's Portland Track Festival 1500m victory is one of FloTrack's best races of 2016.

At the Portland Track Festival in June, then-high school senior Christina Aragon blasted a 4:09.27 to win her section of the 1500m. The performance dipped under the qualifying time for Aragon to compete at the United States Olympic Trials.
In a field filled with pros and college standouts, Aragon bided her time by moving up gradually throughout the first three laps. In the bell lap, Aragon threw down a sudden surge ahead of the leaders who failed to respond as Aragon established a growing lead. She carried her lead into the finish line where she set a then-personal best and moved up from No. 4 to No. 3 on the all-time list. She became the third prep runner to break 4:10 in the 1500m behind Mary Cain and Alexa Efraimson, both of whom went on to sign professional contracts with Nike while still in high school.
Aragon continued her season with a ninth-place finish in the Trials' semifinal and a bronze medal at the World Junior Championships.
