Best FloTrack Races Of 2016: Yorks And McGorty Go 3:53 Indoors
Izaic Yorks and Sean McGorty going 3:53 was one of the most thrilling races of 2016.

In 2016, Izaic Yorks and Sean McGorty only ran one mile each. But their dual at the MPSF meet was an all-timer, as Yorks edged out McGorty 3:53.89 to 3:53.95. It made them the No. 3 and No. 4 fastest indoor collegians ever, the two fastest American collegians ever, and the two fastest collegians ever in a college-only field. A week later, both skipped the mile at indoor NCAAs in favor of the distance medley relay and 3,000m. Yorks anchored Washington to a runner-up finish in the DMR and took fourth in the 3K; McGorty anchored Stanford to a fourth-place finish in the DMR and was the runner-up in the 3K.
McGorty, in just his second track season at Stanford, focused on the 5K outdoors. He went on to run 13:24 and finish second at NCAAs to Edward Cheserek, and advanced to the 5K final at the Olympic Trials, finishing 15th. His 3:53 made him the fastest Stanford miler ever, indoors or out. Converting miles and 1500s together, he's the No. 4 Stanford performer ever.
Yorks's 3:53 broke a Dempsey facility record held by Chris Solinsky, and went under the old MPSF record by three full seconds. Out of eligibility after finishing runner-up to Clayton Murphy in the NCAA outdoor 1500m, Yorks chose to remain in Seattle and signed with the Brooks Beasts. He qualified for the 1500m final at the Trials and took 10th.
