FloTrack's Best Kicks of 2016: Courtney Okolo's NCAA 4x400m Victory

Courtney Okolo won four national titles in 2016, but the Texas senior had to throw down a nasty kick to get it done in the NCAA outdoor 4x400m finals in Eugene, Oregon, in June.

The 2016 Bowerman Award winner, 400m collegiate record-holder, and eventual Olympic 4x400m gold medalist split 50.45 to defeat Arkansas' Taylor Ellis-Watson and lead the Longhorns past the Razorbacks 3:27.64 to 3:27.94.

Okolo got the baton in third place behind Florida and South Carolina. The Texas sprinter closed in during the final 100m, moved into lane three, and secured the victory for the Longhorns.

USA Olympian Paul McMullen Has Died

Paul McMullen, the 1996 USA Olympic Team Trials 1500m champion who would run a lifetime best of 3:33.89 for that distance five years later, has died according to several people prominent in the track and field community in Michigan where McMullen, grew up, lived and attended college at Eastern Michigan University. The cause of death was said to be a skiing accident which occurred in Northern Michigan, but no other details were yet available. McMullen was 49.
