We're Putting The FloTrack Beer Mile World Championships On Ice For 2017

No, we are not making competitors run a beer mile on an ice rink. Maybe another time.

Rather, we are announcing that the FloTrack Beer Mile World Championships are taking a one-year hiatus.

Since 2014, FloTrack has brought a world-class elite beer mile field to the streets of downtown Austin, Texas, each December to race for ultimate glory.  FloSports hopes to sponsor the event again in the future.

FloTrack has hosted several memorable moments in beer mile history, including two world records in 2015: Erin O'Mara set the still-standing women's world at 6:08.51, and Lewis Kent ran 4:47.17, which currently stands as the No. 3 time in world history. Six of the top seven women's times in world history were recorded at the FloTrack-sponsored event, as were three of the top seven men's times.

New Wave Battles Old Guard: U.S. Women's Sprint/Hurdle Preview

The women’s sprints and hurdles at USAs will be a collision of the old and new guard across all five events. Recent NCAA stars like Sha’Carri Richardson and Angie Annelus will try to fend off their more experienced counterparts with a mixture of youth and superior 2019 results, while new pro Sydney McLaughlin will look to do the same as she goes for her first U.S. 400m hurdles title.

A Sleeper In Every USAs Track Event

Every U.S. Championship meet with a team on the line produces under-the-radar names who, against all odds, defy projections to earn a coveted spot at a global championship. The emergence of previously unheralded athletes is one of the best features of USAs, and upsets are bound to occur en masse in a season as atypical as this one.

How Do NCAA Champs Fare At USAs?

25 Americans won an NCAA outdoor title this year. Thus, we wanted to see what the typical success rate was for NCAA champions who compete at USAs. It turns out almost half of the NCAA champions (48%) who competed at USAs went on to finish in the top-3 over the past three world qualifying years.
