Lindon Victor Breaks Collegiate Record In Decathlon
In the final event of the decathlon at Texas Relays, Lindon Victor made history by breaking the collegiate outdoor record.
In the final event of the decathlon at Texas Relays, Lindon Victor made history by breaking the collegiate outdoor record.
The Texas A&M Aggie had to run faster than 4:50 in the 1500m in order to break Trey Hardee's NCAA record of 8,465 points. Victor ran 4:48 to earn 625 points in the last event, adding to a total of 8,472 points and a new collegiate outdoor decathlon record.
During the competition in Austin, Texas, Victor won the 100m (10.63), finished fourth in the long jump (7.37m), first in the shot put (16.52m), first in the high jump (2.09m), third in the 400m (48.24), seventh in the 110m hurdles (14.94), won the discus (53.00m), finished 13th in the shot put (4.30m), won the javelin (66.69m), and closed out the meet with an eighth-place showing in the 1500m.
Victor's performance follows a fifth-place showing at the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 11. Last year, Victor won the NCAA outdoor title with a total of 8,379 points. He went on to compete for Grenada at the Olympic Games in Rio where he placed 16th.
