The USATF has reopened bidding to host the 2020 Olympic Trials after multiple lawsuits have stalled construction efforts at Mt. San Antonio College (Mt. SAC) in Walnut, California.

The proposed new Hilmer Lodge Stadium at Mt. SAC was "a key portion of the bid," according to a USATF press release.

But two lawsuits impeded the scheduled construction.

The first, between Mt. SAC and the City of Walnut, was resolved early last month when the university agreed to abide by specific stipulations, including moving the parking facility away from residential property and reimbursing the city for damage to local roads.

A separate lawsuit filed by the United Walnut Taxpayers (UWT) is still pending. Local residents object to the use of Measure RR bond money—which includes $353 million—in building the stadium.

As of April 13, Judge Holly Kendig denied a request to stop the money flow to the construction and set a civil case trial date for January 14, 2019. But USATF will not wait that long for a new host city.

One minute after USATF issued a press release about reopening the bid process, Mt. SAC released a rather optimistic statement claiming that the stadium will be finished on time and they are "ready to execute our plans to host the 2020 event should USATF reconsider their decision."

The full Mt. SAC statement via event manager Doug Todd is below:

USATF informed Mt. San Antonio College on April 30th that they were going to award the 2020 USA Olympic Track and Field Trials to another venue.

While we accept that the terms of the agreement give USATF the authority to withdraw from this commitment, we remain confident in our ability to deliver a completed stadium on time.  Furthermore, our Local Organizing Committee is ready to execute our plans to host the 2020 event should USATF reconsider their decision.

We look to continue our established positive relationship with USATF and hope to continue to work with them on areas of technical assistance relating to the completion of our stadium.
