Greg Metcalf Resigns From The University Of Washington
University of Washington head track & field and cross country coach Greg Metcalf resigned from his post on Friday afternoon.
University of Washington head track and field and cross country coach Greg Metcalf has resigned from his position. A press release from the Huskies describes his departure as "a mutual separation."
"I have decided that it is in the best interest of the program for me to step down," Metcalf said. "I want to thank the UW community who has made the past two decades such a special experience for me and my family."
He was head coach for 16 years.
"Greg poured tremendous passion and energy into his work, and I am grateful for his many years of service to the University of Washington," UW Director of Athletics Jennifer Cohen said. "I wish him the best moving forward."
The Ephrata, Washington native, himself a former All-American for the Huskies, led the women's cross country team to its first-ever NCAA title in 2008. The women made the podium again in 2009 and 2011. At the 2016 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, both the men's and women's teams took runner-up honors in the distance medley relay.
The most recent NCAA XC Championships saw the women place 21st and the men place 22nd in the team standings. Multiple-time All-American Amy-Eloise Neale took second overall in the women's individual race.
