Lananna Steps Down As TrackTown USA President
Vin Lananna, a key piece in Eugene's track leadership, has resigned as president of TrackTown USA.
Vin Lananna has stepped down as TrackTown USA President.
A source close to the situation said Lananna told his staff on Tuesday of his decision to resign, according to Ken Goe of The Oregonian.
TrackTown USA, the local organizing committee in Eugene, was responsible for the city’s staging of the last three Olympic Trials and the upcoming 2021 IAAF World Championships. The city has also bid for the 2020 Olympic Trials.
Lananna is also the president of USATF; however, the group’s board placed Lananna on administrative leave since February. One of the reasons cited for the board’s decision was conflicts of interests between his role at USATF and TrackTown USA.
The U.S. Department of Justice is currently investigating the bidding process for the 2021 World Championships, which was awarded to Eugene in 2015. Lananna stated that the bid was awarded fairly.
Lananna will continue in his role as associate athletic director for the University of Oregon.
