Analysis:

Although the Fords of Haverford College do not bring back any cross country All-Americans in 2018, this team is not short on star power. With two top-60 finishers from last fall’s NCAA meet and a national champion on the track, Haverford looks poised to improve on their eighth place showing at nationals in 2017.

Three seniors will lead the charge for legendary coach Tom Donnelly, who enters his 44th season at the helm. Graham Peet and Ryan Herlihy were 50th and 56th at nationals last season, respectively, and both could be in line for All-American finishes this year after nice track seasons in the spring. The man to watch above all, though, will be Dylan Gearinger, who won the NCAA indoor 3k in March and ran huge PRs in every distance from 1500m to 10K. Gearinger didn’t run at nationals in 2017, but he’s a solid cross runner who could make a gigantic jump after winning a national title on the oval.

The Fords have two solid four and five runners to complement their top three. Sam McCalpin doesn’t have the track pedigree of his teammates, but a 117th place finish in his nationals’ debut was respectable and showed that he will likely be a top-100 guy this year. Greg Morgan is the fourth senior in the top five, and his incredible track résumé suggests better days are ahead on the grass. If so, a podium spot is not out of the question for the Haverford men.
