Analysis:

Armed with four of the top five women from the squad that placed 20th in Madison last year, the Nittany Lions look poised for their fifth consecutive top 20 finish at NCAA XC.

Middle-distance star Danae Rivers was the top finisher in Madison last year in 87th place; this year, expect 10K specialists Julia Paternain and Kathryn Munks to close the gap this year after improving to 33:22 this spring. Paternain, a true sophomore from Cambridge, England, placed 22nd in the NCAA 5K final. Junior Alison Willingmyre is also a consistent top performer in cross country and has finished fifth and sixth at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Region the past two years.

New Jersey native Moira O’Shea, a consistent top-five performer for Penn State last fall, has transferred to Oregon.
