Analysis:

Losing a No. 1 stick like Allie Ostrander has got to hurt, but the Broncos are also losing No. 2 Emily Venters to Colorado and the other half of their scorers from 2018’s NCAA XC sixth-place team to graduation. Yet Boise State rebuilds with all the pieces needed for a top-15 finish.

Coach Corey Ihmels returns senior Clare O’Brien at the front of the pack. She has All-American potential with 32:39 10K and 15:42 5K PBs, plus her career-high finish of sixth place at last fall’s NCAA West Regional. She’ll provide much-needed senior leadership to a very young international squad that includes Grace Brock, a British junior champion in cross country with tremendous upside after running 16:08 while self-coached; Maxine Paholeck, an Australian steeplechaser who ran No. 3 for the Broncos at NCAA XC last fall (89th as a true freshman); Lara Hamilton, an Australian native who has clocked 16:13 for 5K; and Emily Moyes, a Brit with a 16:30 5K to her name.
