Today Kenya announced their World Championship team for Doha later this month. One notable highlight was the selection of former NCAA 800m champion Emmanuel Korir in the 400m dash. Korir qualified for the 800m team after finishing second at the Kenyan trials, he was also selected to the 400m team due to his 44.55 performance at Kenya’s African Games trials back in June.

Korir has made a name for himself in the 800m over the past three seasons running 1:43 or faster six times, and recently finishing fourth in this year’s Diamond League final. However, Korir has also been impressive in the 400m. He’s run 44 seconds five times since 2017 including a phenomenal 4x4 split of 43.34 at the 2017 NCAA West Prelims.

While the likes of Michael Norman and Fred Kerley are the class of the 400m, on the right day Korir could potentially snag a medal in the 400m and may even potentially score two medals with his 800m talents as well.

Emmanuel Korir’s 400m/800m Double Schedule:

09/28 800m Heats

09/29 800m Semi-Finals

09/30 Rest Day

10/01 2:35 PM 400m Heats | 10:10 PM 800m Final

10/02 400m Semi-Finals

10/03 Rest Day

10/04 400m Final

In 2020 Korir could attempt to win gold in both matching the great Alberto Juantorena
