Mic'd Up With Ritz At The TEN

Apr 19, 2024

Alicia Monson recently announced that she would unfortunately no longer be able to compete in the 2024 track & field season due to a knee injury that will require surgery. One month prior to that announcement, Monson attempted to go after her own American record in the 10,000 at the TEN in California.

Monson tried to become the first US woman to break 30 minutes over the distance. FloTrack was on-site and had the opportunity to capture a behind-the-scenes look at that attempt through the eyes of the On Athletic Club and Alicia’s coach, Dathan Ritzenhein.

During the race, Monson experienced stomach issues which ultimately resulted in her pulling out of the race. It is very rare in the sport that we get to see an inside look at the big moments in an athlete’s career, and even more rare when it’s a moment that doesn’t go the athlete’s way. We appreciate Monson and Coach Ritz allowing us the opportunity to share this experience with the community as this is an experience that runners at all levels have to endure on their path to becoming the best runner they can be.

We wish Alicia a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing her back on the track when she's healthy and ready to return!
