Men's 3k, Final - Edward Cheserek Wins 17th NCAA Title!

null

Edward Cheserek of Oregon won his 17th NCAA title in convincing fashion with a 7:55.91 3K. The win came barely two hours after a shocking two-second loss in the mile to New Mexico freshman Josh Kerr.

Washington's Colby Gilbert held the early lead, before Cheserek and his Duck teammate, Matthew Maton, moved up to lead the field through 1600m in a pedestrian 4:25.03. Cheserek controlled the pace through 1800m on, sustaining surges from Syracuse sophomore Justyn Knight and Tulsa senior Marc Scott, both of whom have recorded wins vs. "King Ches" in the past. But Cheserek was not to be derailed, and took the win in 7:55.91. Knight would take runner-up honors in 7:56.21 and Scott was third in 7:57.19.
