John Carlos was one of the best sprinters in the world when he won the bronze medal in the 1968 Olympic 200 meters. That is just the beginning of the story. While joining gold medalist Tommie Smith on the medal stand, both men stood barefoot and thrust a black-gloved fist in the air during the ceremony. The image of both men in that position and the interpretations of their action has defined both men to this day. John Carlos made himself available to Flotrack recently while promoting his book "The John Carlos Story." In Part 1, Carlos talks about balancing life as an athlete and an activist. He also talks about racism in the sport when he was among the world's best. Part 2 will be coming to your way tomorrow.
