UND frosh George Atkinson III balances track and football

Notre Dame freshman George Atkinson is currently working double time as he prepares for the fall football season and competes for the track and field team. The Irish surely look forward to his services on the turf after he scored four TD's and was their primary kickoff return man in 2011. Football is a family affair for the Atkinson's. His brother Josh is his teammate, and his father George Jr. played 10 years in the NFL, making two Pro Bowl squads and winning a Super Bowl with the Oakland Raiders. George III ran 10.61 and 21.46 as a sophomore at Granada HS in Livermore, CA. His last two HS track season were affected by injury. At last weekend's Stanford Invitational he ran 10.61 and 10.69 in the prelims and finals.
