In her first World Championships ever, teen phenom Mary Cain continued her dream season after running 4:05.21 to place fourth in her heat and advance to the women™s 1500m final in Moscow. Cain, running in the first of two semi final rounds, was joined at the line by a handful of Olympians and World Championship medalist, including Zoe Buckman (AUS), Genzeba Dibaba (ETH) , and Faith Kipyegon(KEN). The 17 year old let the more experienced women do the work, sitting mid pack as the leaders passed through 400m in 63.33 and 800m in 2:12.01. Going into the bell lap, which was passed through in 3:18.16, she was in 9th place. Coming down the final back stretch she was running in lane three, and continued to run wide the rest of the race to nip 4th place and the auto qualifier for the final. She will be joining fellow American Jenny Simpson in the final that will take place August 15th 12:20CST. With numerous junior records and personal bests on international stages, Cain™s final chapter in her 2013 story will be whether or not she can medal come Thursday afternoon. By Ryan Sterner
