As expected, four-time NCAA 800m champion Raevyn Rogers of Oregon and collegiate indoor record holder Jazmine Fray of Texas A&M went straight to the front of the pack in Saturday's final. Rogers took the field through 200m in 28.01, while Fray was the slight leader at 400m (59.94). The group noticeably slowed after halfway and when it came time to kick, Rogers proved that her championship experience is unmatched by putting more than a full second on the field to win in 2:01.09.
Hanna Green of Virginia Tech and Shea Collinsworth of BYU closed well to place second and third in 2:02.13 and 2:02.35, respectively. Sophomore Fray, whose record is 2:00.69, ran 2:03.00 to place fourth in her first-ever NCAA final.
