Fiona Hendry and Emily Durgin Cheverus XC Meet
Sep 11, 2009
The Cheverus High School girls are led by two strong sophomores in Fiona Hendry and Emily Durgin. Last year as freshman, while competing against one another, Emily finished runner up at the state meet behind another freshman (Abbey Leonardi of Kennebunk) while Fiona was third. At the New England XC Championships Leonardi and Durgin went 1-2 respectively (separated by 3 seconds) and Hendry finished 9th. Maine had four freshman girls finish in the top 10 at New Englands, talk about some young depth for a small state!
This year Durgin transfered to Cheverus, a team that was already returning their top 4 runners from a year ago when they finished 6th at the state championship. With Durgin joining, these ladies have a great shot at a state championship but will have to battle Scarborough who returns runners 2 thru 5.
Durgin also ran 10:57 for 3200 while Hendry did not compete in a full outdoor season but was 2x state champ indoors running 5:10 and 11:14.
