Analysis:

The University of Washington returns four women from the squad that placed 12th last year in Terre Haute, including three scorers and All-American Amy-Eloise Neale, who was eighth in 2016. Despite focusing on the mile and 1500m at NCAAs, Neale has shown great promise in the longer distances as she was the Pac-12 runner-up this spring in the 5K and defeated NCAA champion Karissa Schweizer with a 15:39 run at the Stanford Invitational.

Fellow senior Isobel "Izzi" Batt-Doyle made huge strides in her first year with the Huskies after transferring from St. John's in New York. The native Aussie transitioned from the steeplechase to the 10K this year, where she ran 33:35 and placed fourth in the Pac-12 and 12th at the NCAA Championships. She was 109th at NCAAs a year ago but will likely see her 10K strength pay dividends this fall.

Another Neal, Kaitlyn, was the Huskies' No. 2 runner in Terre Haute as a true freshman last year. The former New York state champion for Fayetteville-Manlius High School took 70th at NCAA XC and ran strong times of 9:21 for 3K and 16:16 for 5K.

If senior Anna Maxwell is healthy this fall, she will almost certainly be a top five scorer. She was the No. 2 runner for the Huskies as a freshman in 2014, placing 124th in her first NCAA Championship, and in 2015, ran No. 4 for the Huskies in 107th place at NCAAs. The 4:12 1500m runner was injured last fall and did not race at NCAAs, nor did she race all spring.

Several top recruits have the potential to contribute right away. Allie Schadler of Arizona was seventh at NXN last year and owns PRs of 4:43 for the mile and 10:05 for 3200m. Shona McCulloch has been a top junior level runner on the Canadian circuit for years now; she was the 2015 and 2016 national junior champion for 3K and placed 11th in the event at the 2016 IAAF World U20 Championships. She ran 9:59 to win the 2016 Brooks PR 2 Mile and has also clocked 16:31 for 5K on the track.
