The NCAA DI Northeast Regional saw the No. 3 ranked Syracuse men win handily over No. 22 rated Iona, 28 to 48 points, while the No. 13 ranked Providence women scored 84 points for the win. No one else in the men's race besides Syracuse and Iona scored under 200 points, but the women's team battle was much more contentious for that second place and automatic national qualifier as Dartmouth edged Syracuse, 115 to 117 points. The No. 21 ranked Columbia women were fourth behind the two unranked squads with 120 points.

No. 1 ranked Justyn Knight of Syracuse won his third regional title in 31:43.4 to help the Orangemen capture their fifth straight team crown. Fellow 'Cuse senior Colin Bennie took runner-up honors in 31:44.9 ahead of Iona's top man, Johannes Motschmann, who was third in 31:47.9. Syracuse's top five men today included Aidan Tooker (6th, 32:06.1), Philo Germano (8th, 32:10.1) and true freshman Dominic Hockenbury (11th, 32:15.4).

Iona men ran their best race of the season by placing their top five in the top 17 overall; Motschmann was followed by Liam Dee (7th, 32:08.9), Gilbert Kirui (9th, 32:11.9), Chartt Miller (12th, 32:16.3) and Andrew Tario (17th, 32:27.8). 2017 marks their 17th year in a row making the NCAA Championships.

Brisk conditions in Buffalo made the race an especially tactical affair on the women's side as No. 3 ranked Elinor Purrier of New Hampshire won in just 21:20.8, a pedestrian time for an athlete of her caliber over 6K. ACC champion Paige Stoner ran 2-3 with her Syracuse teammate, Shannon Malone, as the overall team champion Providence women were led by Catarina Rocha with a fourth-place, 21:37.2 performance.

The Friars were heavily favored to win the regional title, but the point totals were much closer than in the men's race. Rocha was backed up by fellow senior Brianna Ilarda (6th, 21:47.9), Millie Paladino (11th, 22:13.5), Abbey Wheeler (15th, 22:19.1) and Mackenzie Barry (48th, 22:48.1). The gap between No. 4 and No. 5 made them a bit vulnerable but nevertheless the top-ranked team won the day.

The race for second place was fierce though as Ivy League champions Columbia, who are ranked No. 21 in the FloXC, placed just fourth behind Heps rivals Dartmouth and the Syracuse women. Dartmouth, second at Heps by seven points to Columbia, was paced by Julia Stevenson (9th, 22:04.6), who led a 34-second top five spread as the other scorers were Oliva Lantz (13th, 22:17.7), Ella Kethcum (28th, 22:32.2), Glendora Murphy (31st, 22:35.0) and Leigh Moffett (34th, 22:38.1). With only one senior in their top five, the Dartmouth women have plenty to look forward to in the future.

The Syracuse and Columbia women are also projected to qualify for the NCAA XC Championships based on the Kolas Calculator. The NCAA will release the final at-large selections tomorrow.
